The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Olubode Bode Ojajuni, has advised broadcasters to report Nigeria positively and promote the nation’s culture rather than foreign cultures.
Penpushing reports that Ojajuni gave the advice when members of the Association of Nigerian Broadcasters (ANBROAD), Ogun State chapter, paid him a courtesy visit at police Headquarters Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The police boss cautioned the association on need for members to avoid content capable of inciting unrest, in the country and exercise professional discretion, especially on sensitive issues.
Penpushing further reports that he emphasized that while broadcasters should carry out their duties diligently, they must avoid portraying the country in a negative light and instead use their platforms to promote unity and cultural values.
The delegation was led by the Governor of the association Gbenga Goke Fadiran, who explained that the visit was to welcome him to the state and foster collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force.
Penpushing also reports that among those present include General Manager of Fresh 107.9 FM, Abeokuta, Goke Babalola who is national leader of the association as well as Rasheed Ojelabi Oreoba; Olufemi Omilani; and Muriziq Oluwatosin.
The Chairman of the association in his remarks highlighted the association’s contributions, noting that members are involved in producing quality programmes across radio, television, and social media platforms.
Penpushing reports that he explained that the association comprises newscasters, broadcasters, station owners, educators, entertainers, and information managers who play vital roles in shaping public opinion and disseminating information.
