The former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Peter Azi has been reported dead at age 57 on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, but the nature or cause of death was unknown as at the time of filing this report.
Penpushing reports that a family member, John Azi, announced the demise of the former speaker, who served from June 2015 to July 2018 during the administration of former Governor Simon Lalong.

Penpushing further reports that the deceased was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and remained active in the state’s political affairs after leaving office, and had led the assembly during a period of significant political activity in Plateau State.
The former lawmaker whose death has thrown political associates, lawmakers, and members of his community into mourning rose through Plateau’s political structure to lead the legislature, the pinnacle of his career.
Penpushing also reports that the bereaved family stated that burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
