A mentally deranged man has become a neighbor of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta,  Ogun State capital, having occupied a side of the media, directly opposite the hospital.

Penpushing reports that the lunatic has been an “occupant” for over two weeks and no attempt has been made to dislodge him, despite the fact that it is located few meters from the Kemta Divisional Police headquarters.

The residents of the area said the unnamed lunatic disappears in the day time, only to return to his make shift “apartment” in the night, clutching sacks, said to contain rags and other unidentified objects.

Penpushing further reports that the Idi-Aba road, which is five minutes drive from the Lantoro annex of the Psychiatric hospital, leads to many major parts of the town and plied by hundreds of passersby and motorists daily.

The management staff and other officials of the hospital, who pass through the lunatic everyday, ironically seem not to be bothered about the ugly development, and instead look away as it nothing is amiss.

Penpushing also reports that, the incumbent Ogun State Government, had in an effort to rid the streets of the state of undesirable elements assured that it would relocate non indigenes among them to their various states, reunite indigenes with their families and ensure the mentally deranged receive medical attention.

The residents, however, said the government has failed in this regard, as destitutes and homeless youths are daily roaming some streets of the state capital, including the popular pedestrian bridge in Panseke/Ibara axis of the state capital.

Penpushing reports that cases abound when some of them engage in crimes, as a number of those who pretend to be lunatics and hide in various spots have been identified as robbers, ritualists and kidnappers, in possession of expensive mobile phones, used to commit atrocities.
