A former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has died on Sunday September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom at the age of 77, however, the circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately clear as at the time of filing this report
Penpushing reports that Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Public Relations and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Yahaya Bello, Onogwu Muhammed, disclosed this in a Facebook post
“Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo; former Governor Yahaya Bello, CON; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abdullahi Bello; and other top government officials have arrived at the Abuja residence of the late former Governor Ibrahim Idris, who passed away this afternoon’, he wrote
Penpushing further reports that following his death, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo; former Governor Yahaya Bello; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdullahi Bello; and other top government officials visited the deceased’s residence in Abuja to condole with his family.
The deceased served as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, first taking office in May 2003 and serving a second term after the 2007 election, and was succeeded by Idris Wada in January 2012.
Penpushing also reports that Senator representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has mourned the deceased describing him as a significant figure in the political history of Kogi State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
