The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has distanced himself from the removal of the one-week old former Speaker Gboyega Aribisogan by his colleagues, but described the crisis in the Ekiti State House of Assembly as a family affair and one of the beauties of democracy.
Penpushing reports that Oyebanji made this known on Tuesday while receiving the newly elected Speaker, Rt Hon Olubunmi Adelugba, in his office, adding that he was glad the leaders of the party swiftly ensured the resolution of the crisis in the house.
‘The crisis in the Ekiti State House of Assembly is a family affair and one of the beauties of democracy. “You have justified the confidence your various constituencies reposed in you, by doing the right thing at the appropriate time,” he told the lawmakers in attendance
Penpushing further reports that, the Governor who insisted that he was not involved in the impeachment of the immediate past Speaker assured the new Speaker of his support, reminding her of the need to accelerate action on the passage of the 2023 budget.
The Deputy Speaker, Hon Hakeem Jamiu, while presenting the new Speaker in the presence of other 17 members described the crisis that broke out in the house in the last few days as an embarrassment, not only to the members of the All Progressives Congress( APC), but to the people of Ekiti State.
Penpushing also reports that, Jamiu said the House has corrected what he called the anomaly that dogged its leadership change, and assured that the House under the new leadership would continue to maintain peace in the discharge of its constitutional duties.
The parts of reasons against the sacked Speaker and suspension of six other members of the assembly as made known by his colleagues was that he sabotaged the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Bill submitted to the house by the Governor.
