Sunday Igboho happened to be one of those rare Yorubas that emerges once in a while and each time they performed the duty that DESTINY assigned to them, some of them vacated the scenes and became an important part of Yoruba history.
But some of them, like Afonja, Sango Gbonka and Efunsetan always remind me of a folklore story told by my uncle of blessed memories and if Mr Igboho allowed himself to be cheered on by politicians and other interest groups, this story is for him too.
The baby mosquito was ready for its first flight and Mama mosquito called it inside for a little advice.
“Listen carefully son, when you go out there, don’t hang on too long on humans, and try not to repeat your songs twice to the same audience”.
“Thanks Mama” said the baby mosquito and off it went, two hours later baby mosquito came back excited
“Mama” it said “all your warnings amounted to fear mongering, I hung on to humans very long and repeated my song to the same audience more than twice”
Mama mosquito asked, “so what happened, were they upset?”
“No mama” the baby mosquito answered, “they were all clapping for me.”
“Hmm!!” the Mama mosquito said, “they weren’t clapping for you baby, They were trying to kill you’
