Armed police officers on Monday prevented Board of Trustees (BOT) of troubled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other members from accessing the party’s national secretariat, in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (PDP)

Penpushing reports that the party board of trustees’ members, had arrived at the secretariat early for the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, and meet the headquarters barricaded by security personnel.

The Chairman of the board, Adolphus Wabara, in reaction condemned the cancellation of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting insisting that the action was unconstitutional and a gross violation of the party constitution (as amended in 2017).

Penpushing further reports that at least 12 members of the National Working Committee (NWC) had insisted that the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting be held as scheduled in line with the resolution of its 99th meeting.

The National Working Committee (NWC) members in the same vein rejected the reinstatement of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary, while it is recalled that last Wednesday the board members and the splinter National Working Committee (NWC) officials at a press conference reacted to a disclosure by the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagun, recognising Anyanwu as secretary

Penpushing also reports that the board argued that the scheduled National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on June 30, 2025 would merely be a special expanded caucus meeting, while Anyanwu on Sunday issued a notice affirming Damagum’s position.

The notice, said the expanded caucus meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the National Executive Council (NEC) Hall in Wadata Plaza, the party’s secretariat, which is now under police siege.

Penpushing reports that the notice equally listed those expected to attend the meeting, including statutory members of the national caucus, deputy national officers, members of the Board of Trustees, state party chairpersons, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of the National Assembly, former National Working Committee (NWC) members still in the party, ex-officio members, former governors, and recent governorship candidates.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as at the time of filing this report has yet to issue an official explanation for the police presence at its headquarters, but a party official, who preferred anonymity requested anonymity alleged that the security lockdown was a deliberate move to block the proposed expanded caucus meeting.

Penpushing further reports that as at the time of filing this report, and following the development the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the party and their allies have commenced   converging on the Yar’Adua Centre in preparation for the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
