The Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun on Saturday read riot act to leadership and members of the faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), following a a parallel congress organized by a faction of the party in the state.
Penpushing reports that, a faction loyal to Abiodun held congress at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abiola which was supervised by Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee assigned by the national headquarters of the party led by Hon Wale Ohu and observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
The faction of former Governor, Ibikunle Amosun on its part held the congress at the Alake palace, and introduced Gbenga Opaleye as the chairman of the congress electoral commission, a congress also attended by Amosun loyalists and produced Chief Derin Adebiyi as the pary chairman.
Penpushing further reports that, Abiodun while addressing the congress which produced Chief Yemi Sanusi as the party chairman and other executive officers, declared that, he would not fold his arm for anybody to toy with the law.
The Governor who blew hot declared that as at today, he is the only Governor of the state and Chief security officer, adding anybody living in illusion should desist or face the full wrath of the law, pointing out that his warning should be well clear
‘We would consider it as sabotage against our commonwealth. And I will deal with that person decisively. We will bring upon the fullest of the law .by the grace of God; I am the only governor in Ogun state as at today. Any anybody living in an illusion should steer clear. I hope the message is heard well and clear. I am the chief security officer of the state and we would not allow break down of law’, Abiodun emphasised.
Penpushing also reports that, Abiodun while expressing appreciation to the congress electoral committee for conducting free and fear election, called on party members on the importance of loyalty to the party at all time.
The national secretariat of the ruling All Progressives (APC), it will be recalled warned against any planned parallel congress in the State Chapter of the party on Saturday, declaring that, the only approved congress is scheduled to hold at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
Penpushing reports that the Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee of the party Hon. Wale Ohu, made this known on Friday during a press conference held at the party’s secretariat located at Iyana mortuary in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The Chairman briefing journalists after the screening of all aspirants seeking election into various state party offices in the State, emphaised that only the elections held inside the main bowl of the Stadium in Abeokuta will be regarded as valid State Congress election in Ogun State.
“I have the mandate of the National Secretariat of the party to vet, screen and conduct the Ogun State congress of the APC. No other election is valid, except the one my committee of 7 sent by the National headquarters of the party”, he stated
Penpushing further reports that, Ohu, said the clarification became necessary because he had been inundated with calls, text messages and physical enquiries over the exercise and insinuations that some other persons are planning to have another election.
‘It cannot be. Any other one other than the one we are conducting is anti-party because we have all the materials: congress eligibility register, ballot papers and boxes, result sheets, party seal and authority. No other person or group of person has the CCECP to conduct any election or congress in Ogun State tomorrow”, he declared
Penpushing also reports that, he emphaised that his committee has invited security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the exercise, and equally enjoined party faithful to conduct themselves with decorum and peacefully throughout the exercise.
The chairman to further buttress authenticity of the committee introduced all the 7-member team from the party headquarters in Abuja who were saddled with the responsibility to conduct the Congress in Ogun State and assured all party members of a credible free, fair and transparent process
