The Ogun State Government through the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), has enlisted another set of interns in the third batch of Ogun Teachers Experience Acquisition Channel (OgunTEACh), out of the 1,200 approved for the commission.

Penpushing reports that chairman of the commission, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, while speaking on the exercise at Oke-Mosan, explained that the enlisted new set of interns was in fulfilment of government promise to employ more teachers and improve on quality education

The chairman disclosed that the screening and enlistment exercise which took place, comprised of verification process and interview sessions for qualified applicants, who would be serving a two-year internship before being considered for permanent employment.

Penpushing further reports that Ifede charged the interns to utilise the opportunity given them, as it was an avenue for permanent employment, urging them to discharge their duties effectively and shun acts of indiscipline that may undermine the objective of the scheme.

“The Abiodun-led administration is using this platform to gainfully engage    the unemployed by offering them an avenue to learn and earn a token, with the prospect of a permanent appointment after two years of internship. I therefore charge you all to take advantage and deliver on the jobs given you”, he said.

Penpushing also reports that he stated that the present administration initiated the 5,000-teacher recruitment process through OgunTEACh, to reduce the workload on existing teachers, as well as teacher to student ratio in public secondary schools across the state.

“It is crucial to state that OgunTEACh has delivered a number of interns to schools; some of which have been made permanent. This scheme has delivered and the benefits are evident. We are confident that the gains will remain for many years to come”, he said.

The successful applicants which include Lawal Abosede from Ikenne and Olomu Mary from Ogun Waterside in their remarks expressed gratitude to the government, promising to effectively discharge their duties.

Penpushing reports that the commission has offered permanent employment to 598 interns out of over 1,000 already serving under the scheme and intends to complete the process before the present government winds up.
