The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Kemta-Idi-Aba -Division in collaboration with Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday organized a stakeholders meeting with school owners in Ogun State to fashion out security measures in protecting students and school environment, as well as guide against possible bandits attack.
Penpushing reports that the meeting with the theme, “Strengthening School Security and Child Safety” was held at Divisional Police Headquarters, Kemta Idi-Aba, Abeokuta with number of school owners, principals teachers and other stakeholders in attendance
The Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Kemta Division, Prince Lateef Adedayo in his welcome speech explained that the meeting was in obedience to the directive of the Inspector General of Police through the Ogun State Commissioner of Police mandating the body nationwide.
“Our children are our future. Their safety in school is non-negotiable. This meeting is a working session to identify security gaps around Idi-Aba axis, share ideas and agree on practical solutions that will protect every student under Kemta Idi-Aba Division “, he said
Penpushing further reports that Adedayo urged members to be open minded and should contribute ideas and see themselves as partners in progress for the security of the environment, pointing out that police cannot do it alone, stressing that together with PCRC as the bridge, the body can build safer learning environment for the children
The Divisional Police Officer Quadri Raheem who spoke on police perspective on school security challenges, emphasized that police view school security as a shared responsibility, explaining that security cannot be effectively achieved through policing alone, rather it requires active collaboration among all stakeholders
Penpushing also reports that he identified some approaches to address insecurity which include preventing incidents before it occurs by providing intelligence gathering, risk assessments, awareness campaigns and community policing initiatives, schools must implement physical and procedural measures to safeguard lives and property
The police chieftain called for strong partnership between schools, parents, communities and law enforcement agencies are critical for effective security management, adding that rapid and coordinated responses to emergencies help minimize damage, save lives and restore confidence
Penpushing reports that Chairman, Abeokuta Metro Area Command of PCRC, Hon Yomi Whyte in his remarks pointed out that schools owners are moulding lives, hence importance need to be cautious of safety of students, adding that they should also relate with their communities, where their schools are located
The Chairman emphasized that relationships with communities are integral part of security, and equally called on school owners to register their schools with police stations within their jurisdiction they operate as directed by the Ogun State Government.
Meanwhile, stakeholders took time to engage in interactive sessions which gave them opportunity to share their experiences and challenges being faced by them, and how to go about preferring solutions
