Women, Infants and Children Care Initiative (WICCI) a Non-Governmental Organisation has organized a project on violence against women and girls designed to create awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
Penpushing reports that, the project was sponsored by the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), which also aimed to improve the mental health and wellness of women and victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Ogun State.
The Executive Director of the Initiative, Doyinsola Adebayo said the Ogun State based non religious organization with branches in other States in the South-Western part of Nigeria, as part of the activities organized training workshop to strengthen the capacity of relevant Civil Society Organizations(CBOs, FBO, CDAs, Media) in the provision of emotional wellness to women and victims of Gender Based Violence(GBV).
Penpushing further reports that, she disclosed that, in promoting community awareness of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and mental wellness for women and girls as well as create a safe space for discussion, a monthly Focus Group Discussions were organized for adolescent girls and young women
The Initiative boss disclosed that participants shared experiences with craftworks and inter-community football matches for young men at Totoro community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state.
Penpushing also reports that, Adebayo said part of the programme was a weekly media awareness campaign where feminists who are mental health professionals, Gender Focal Point, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp and Lawyer discussed about issues around Gender Based Violence (GBV) and mental health of women.
The advocacy visit was extended to Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta
