The indigenes of Yewaland in Ogun West Senatorial  District of Ogun State have called on government on need to engage local security outfits in the areas in complementing efforts of government security personnel for effective address of the security challenges in the zone.

Penpushing reports that, the indigenes under the aegis of Yewa G6 Ambassadors made the plea in a statement signed by Ambassador Abiodun Fabuyi(President) and Ambassador Boye Adesina(Head,Media Committee)

‘From the experience of the last incidences in Yewa axis of the state, it is crystal clear that government alone cannot in anyway handle and tackle security  challenges in Nigeria and in Ogun State’, the statement said.

‘Government should as a matter of expediency consider empowering the local people who knows the terrain and footpaths of their forest and environment. Deployment of government  security personnel to places of violence should be complemented with the natives of the affected areas who must have been properly trained, equipped and empowered by government’.

Penpushing further reports that, the Club argued that from previous experiences government concentrated in establishing more checkpoints on the road, stressing that, deployment of locals will assist identifying routes of the criminals

‘From experience government  security personnel tends to concentrate on putting up check points on the road. Deploying natives to join the security personnel will ensure that the bushes where criminals hide can be properly combed’.

‘Government should also engage in periodic appraisal of its security architecture in order to be on top of the security challenges not only in Yewa land but in the entire state and indeed the whole country’, the group added.

‘In addition, those who are currently displaced either internally as IDPs or externally as refugees should be adequately catered for by government and resettled back to their abode timely;, the statement emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that, the group called on its kinsmen to cooperate with government and committee set up to look into the Fulani killings in he zone, to know the causes, and provide way out of the clashes.

‘Yewa G6 Ambassadors club  appeal to our people to fully cooperate with government and the committee set up to look into the causes, provide  solutions and modalities for the prevention of future occurrences’.

‘It should now be clear to government that this is the most appropriate time to inaugurate the Southwest security network, Amotekun and deploy the personnel to Yewa land and other security challenged areas of the state’, the body emphasised.

Penpushing reports that, the club, however, acknowledged the intervention of the Ogun state government in the farmers/ herders mayhem which recently occurred in the zone, adding that quick responses saved a bloody reprisals attack from both sides.

‘But for government intervention, the casualties would have been unprecedented in the anal history of the state. The intervention though late, Yewa G6 Ambassadors club still  see the intervention as very necessary one which is  commendable’.

Penpushing reports that, the club also praised the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle who they described his roles and noble for rising up timely to prevent the serious calamities that would have followed the herders attack on the indigenes and residents of the zone.
