The former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday made clarifications on who is qualified to be honour with Olori Omo Oba of Owu kingdom, emphasizing that the qualification is strictly for persons from royal lineage, having contributed positively to the growth of the kingdom.
Penpushing reports that Obasanjo, who is the Balogun of Owu made the clarification at the 4th coronation anniversary of Olowu of Owu, Oba (Prof) Saka Matemilola in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, cautioning those making overtures for the position, but not from royal lineage to desist.
The Ebora Owu as fondly called explained that Olori Omo Oba is not a chieftaincy title as being erroneously misinterpreted in some quarters, stressing that it is strictly meant for royal family, adding that the Olowu is in better position to make choice of the rightful recipient of the honour
‘Olori Omo Oba is not a chieftaincy title as been mis-interpreted in some quarters, it is an honour, and for a royal lineage. I have been hearing that some people have been lobbying for it as a chieftaincy, they should desist, it is not a chieftaincy’, he emphasised
Penpushing further reports that, Obasanjo, therefore, encouraged Olowu to search for credible personality from royal lineage to confer the honour, adding that the traditional ruler can equally involve Owu Kingdom historian on the search to identify the merited indigene for the position
The Owu high chief traced the beginning of honour of Olori Omo Oba to the reign of late Olowu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu who during his reign bestowed the honour on late Bola Ajibola, a prince from the kingdom who contributed immensely to the development of the community and Ogun state in general, as well as his global contributions
