The  aspirants race for chairmanship position in Abeokuta South Local Government area under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) has recorded a dramatic dimension, as eight out of the twelve accredited aspirants stepped down from the party  primaries.

Penpushing reports that, the aspirants were said to have met and resolved to team up with the incumbent caretaker chairman of the council, Ayodeji Somide, who is said to be interested to contest for the seat, for him to become an elected chairman.

The investigation conducted revealed that, those who stepped down were said to have done that, to support the aspiration of Somide, who they claimed had performed creditably well as the caretaker chairman of the council.

Penpushing further reports that, the step aside aspirants were quoted saying that, withdrawing from the primaries for Somide, will also serve as a purpose of unity, and to avoid divided house ahead of the general election.

The pact, sources close to the aspirants said, was necessary to give good fight to the most relevant opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the forthcoming poll, stressing that it was necessary for the ruling party to go out as a one family.

Penpushing also reports that, one of the notable aspirant, Hon Adedayo Akintoye popularly called, ’D  1’, when contacted confirmed the development, explaining that the decision was done in good faith, and to ensure the party is victorious at the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  it is recalled  has created an additional 1,832 polling units to the existing 3,210 in Ogun State, thereby making a total of 5,042 polling units in the state.

Penpushing reports that, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting on expansion of voter access to polling units and commencement of continuous voter registration exercise in Abeokuta.

The electoral umpire explained further that, it became necessary to create more polling units, in view of the fact to reduce the stress of voters travelling long distances to their polling units on election day;

Penpushing further reports that, the Resident Electoral Commissioner explained that the development was equally alluded to the emergence and spring up of new settlements and estates across the state.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner disclosed that the commission will be commencing the continuous voters registration effective Monday 28th June 2021; an exercise which will be continuous nationwide.
