The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended 26 chieftains of the party associated with former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, a disciplinary measure said to be in response to factionalisation of the party and creation of a parallel organ within the party.
Penpushing reports that Chairman of the party, Tajudeen Lawal, made the announcement on Thursday citing anti-party activities, and gave identities of the suspended party members as include former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti; former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Najeem Salami! and former state chairman of the party, Adelowo Adebiyi among others.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) it is recalled had earlier on Wednesday announced the expulsion of 84 members who also belong to Aregbesola’s camp, however, as at the time of filing this report it was not clear if the former Governor will get same sanction
Penpushing further reports that a statement explained that following complaints of anti-party activities, the State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) constituted a Disciplinary Committee to investigate the allegations against some of its members.
The statement added that the Disciplinary Committee undertook a thorough and impartial review of the allegations and the findings were carefully deliberated upon by the State Executive Committee, and after a comprehensive assessment of the evidence and consideration of the committee’s recommendations, the State Executive Committee resolved to suspend the affected members.
‘As we move forward, we enjoin our members to remain focused on our goals and continue working together to serve the interests of our constituents and our State. Our commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and adherence to our party’s core values remains unwavering’, Lawal stated.
Penpushing also reports others place on suspension include Messrs Adelani Baderinwa, Sikiru Ayedun, Engr. Kazeem Salami, Alhaji Adesiji Azeez, Barrister Gbenga Akano, Kunle Ige, Biodun Agboola and Barrister Gbenga Awosode
The others are Rasheed Opatola, Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi, Hon. Israel Oyekunle, Hon. MBO Ibraheem, Akeem Olaoye, Hon. Francis Famurewa, Hon. Tajudeen Famuyide, Hon. (Mrs.) Adenike Abioye, Hon. Wasiu Adebayo, Hon. Rasheed Afolabi, Segun Olanibi,Tunde Ajilore, Ganiyu Ismaila Opeyemi, Zakariah Khalid and Olaoluwa( South Local Council Development Association.
Penpushing reports that it is on record that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been crisis-ridden since the immediate past Governor Gboyega Oyetola took over from his predecessor Rauf Aregbesola as Governor of the state.
The crisis was linked to defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship poll, as well as losing all the National Assembly seats and winning only a single seat in the State House of Assembly.
Penpushing further reports that while it is recalled that Aregbesola recently announced the formation of a new group, called Omoluabi Progressives, within the party in Osun, which deepened crisis within the party.
