The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde on Saturday promised that he would the first Governor to handover to a successor, noting that in the history of the state, no out-going Governor has done that after the expiration of their tenure in office.

Penpushing reports that  Makinde gave the assurance  while speaking during the Inauguration and Duty Commencement Service of the 8th President of Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, held at the church International Headquarters, Ibadan

“No Governor has ever handed over to his successor in this state, Baba Lam Adeshina didn’t handed over to his successor, former Governor Adewolu Ladoja, Baba Ladoja didn’t handed over to his successor, former Governor Adebayo Alao Akala, didn’t handed over to Abiola Ajimobi, and Ajimobi also didn’t handed over to me, but am standing in front of the altar of God, I will be the first Governor to hand over to my successor.”

Penpushing further reports that, Makinde, however, commended the smooth process that led to the inauguration of the new President of the church, noting that though Nigeria is at the cross road, but priority of all Nigerians should be how to end crisis of division in the nation.

The Governor, it is recalled has declared that he was not afraid of losing the 2023 Governorship election in the state, adding that the electorate will determine  his fate on that, and not any godfather.

Penpushing reports that Makinde explained that it is on record that, he had earlier contested governorship elections in 2007, 2011 and 2015 respectively but could not make it then

“If the people of Oyo state ask me to leave the office as governor today, I won’t hesitate to leave the office. Let me tell you here today. I don’t have a political father. It was God who made me governor and not human being. I fear only God and not any human. No matter how powerful a man is, I cannot fear him”, he emphasised

Penpushing further reports that, the Governor   emphasised that he fear nobody except God, stressing that only God support him to become the Governor because he has no political God father.

“I contested election in 2007, 2011 and 2015 but failed and when it is time for God to make me a governor, he made me. If the people of the state decided that they don’t want me again, I will only take my bag and leave because I don’t have a pin in the office.”
