A Non- Governmental Organisation, Women Solidarity Initiatives for Development (WOSID), has commiserated with the people of Mokwa, Niger State, in the aftermath of the flooding experienced there recently.
Penpushing reports that Founder of the women group, Chief Marian Nishile who expressed concern at the unfortunate incident, in a press release, said it was worrisome that many were still missing, lamenting that the local market, hub for regional food trade was not spared.
The founder of the Women Solidarity Initiatives for Development (WOSID), who observed that the flooding would no doubt have a telling effect, however, commended President Bola Tinubu for expressly activating the national emergency response.
Penpushing further reports that she pointed out that while government needed to do more in terms of early evacuation ahead of the flooding, which now seemed like an annual occurrence, more awareness should be created on the need for residents of flood -prone areas, to willingly evacuate, when necessary.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report the group noted that the death toll is said to be over 150, in the devastating flooding which affected about 3 communities in the town, with over 5,000 persons reportedly displaced.
