Woman commits suicide over inability to repay N70, 000 loan

A middle-aged woman, identified as Mama Dada,has  set herself on fire in her rented apartment located at Oke-Keesi, Itoko area of Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital over her inability to repay a loan of N70,000 to microfinance bank.

Penpushing reports that, the loan popularly called ‘Gbomu le lantern’, was introduced by the microfinance bank known as ‘Lapo’ to address financial challenges and businesses of the petty traders and alike

The Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO) known as LAPO was established   in 1987, and later upgraded  into a Microfinance Institute, in 1990, having being  registered as a microfinance bank in 2007, with aimed to support small-scale business owners, but  with strict repayment conditions

Penpushing further reports that sources within the community said the woman had earlier sent her last born to buy fuel, which the innocent child was not aware of reason for the purchase, and thereafter sent the child on another round of errand.

The sources added that shortly after the innocent child left, Mama Dada locked herself up inside the room, wet everywhere with petrol including herself and  immediately set the whole place on fire, adding that she was burnt beyond recognition

Penpushing also reports that as at the time of filing this report, symphatizers trooped to the house, while the remains of the victim been deposited at the morgue of Ogun State General Hospital, situated in Oke-Ijeun area of Abeokuta.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi as at the time of filing this report was yet to make any official statement over the ugly development, but made a promised that he would later get back to the media
