A prominent member of Penpushing platform and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tunde Lemo, has joined prominent Nigerians and global admirers in celebrating former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the elder statesman marks his 89th birthday.

Penpushing reports that Lemo, a governorship aspirant in Ogun State under the banner of All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship race, in the congratulatory message described the celebrator as a distinguished statesman whose life and service continue to shape Nigeria’s democratic development and Africa’s global diplomatic standing.

The tribute released to commemorate the milestone, Lemo recalled that Obasanjo served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1976 to 1979 and later as civilian President between 1999 and 2007, and remains one of the country’s most influential political figures and an enduring voice on governance, democracy and continental cooperation.

Penpushing further reports that congratulating the former President, Lemo said Obasanjo’s leadership legacy continues to inspire generations within Nigeria and across the African continent.

“Baba, I join the Nigerian people, particularly your devoted sons and daughters from Ogun State, and countless admirers of your enduring legacy worldwide, in extending my heartfelt congratulations on the momentous occasion of your 89th birthday”, Lemo stated.

Penpushing also reports that the former apex bank deputy governor praised Obasanjo’s lifelong dedication to national development, democratic consolidation and peace advocacy, describing him as a visionary leader whose contributions to Africa’s progress remain widely acknowledged.

“Your extraordinary life, a testament to unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s progress, democracy and regional cooperation, continues to inspire and galvanize successive generations”, he said.

Penpushing reports that Lemo pointed out that Obasanjo’s statesmanship, diplomatic engagement and commitment to peace-building across Africa have left an indelible mark on global leadership discourse.

The bank expert turned politician stated that the elder statesman’s influence transcends Nigeria’s borders, particularly in areas of conflict resolution, democratic transitions and continental cooperation, and offered prayers for the former president’s continued health and longevity.

“May this milestone birthday usher in boundless joy, robust health, and divine blessings upon your revered person. May you continue to be blessed with many more years of impactful service and may your exemplary legacy of leadership, integrity and patriotism remain an enduring beacon”, Lemo added.

‘Obasanjo, widely addressed as “Baba” by admirers and political associates, has remained active in public discourse through his advocacy on governance reforms, leadership accountability and Africa’s economic development’, Lemo wrote.

‘Generally, the tributes marking Chief Obasanjo’s birthday from leaders across the political spectrum highlight the enduring influence he continues to wield in Nigeria’s political and diplomatic landscape’, he added.
