Barely twenty-four hours after Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun gave directive that no articulated vehicles should ply flyover in the state, a number of truck drivers have shunned the directive and still make use of the bridges as passage routes.

Penpushing reports that, following the Tuesday tanker fire incident which occurred at the tail end of the Kuto  bridge in Abeokuta, which claimed three lives and six persons sustaining degree of injuries, the Governor gave order that, henceforth no trucks should ply overhead bridges in the state.

The orders was however, ignored on Wednesday as drivers of some of the trucks passing through the state capital, were seen still making use of the flyover, unhindered following absence of road officials within the vicinity.

Penpushing further reports that, a typical example was a truck with inscription ‘Mor Loi’ and its registration number plate covered, which was sighted at about 1.15pm, plying the Kuto bridge, along Presidential boulevard, the axis of the Tuesday crash.

The driver of the truck with full load of cement in defiant to the state government order was found on the bridge on top speed, a replica of the cause of the Tuesday accident, which led to killings of innocent motorists and loss of five vehicles burnt beyond recognition.

Penpushing also reports that, the driver ignored warning of passerby and other motorists in the area, when he was sighted flouting the government order, rather he sped off, to avoid being stopped or apprehended

The Governor it is recalled while speaking with journalists after his assessment of the truck fire incident, said the government is also considering looking at if the trucks plying through the state, may have restricted time of passage.

Penpushing reports that, Abiodun disclosed that he would soon call meeting of stakeholders to work out modalities on the proposal, in the interest of all stakeholders in the motoring activities and residents of the state.
