The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused President Bola Tinubu of not interested in having him as his cabinet member even though he (Tinubu) submitted his name to the Senate for confirmation and the latter rejected it.
Penpushing reports that El-Rufai stated this on Monday in a television interview adding that after his rejection by the Senate, he believes the president only used the Senate’s refusal as a justification.
The former Governor who granted the television interview since he left public office in 2023. explained that he later told the president that he was no longer interested in being a minister, stressing that the National Assembly has nothing to do with him
Penpushing further reports that El-Rufai stated that he has no security issue that would warrant scrutiny, as cited as excuse by the Senate arguing that no one has released the security report since the drama in the Senate.
“The president didn’t want me in his cabinet. The National Assembly has nothing to do with me. What was the security issue? I have been the governor of one of the difficult states. I was a minister 20 years ago,” he said,
Penpushing also reports that El-Rufai said he only accepted to be part of the government when Tinubu came with the challenge of revamping electricity adding that he believes the president changed his mind on having him as a minister, and he has since move on
‘I believe the president changed his mind on having him as a minister. The president is a human being. He changed his mind and I moved on’, El-Rufai said.
