Suspects offer N.5million bribe to police to evade arrest

The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that suspects arrested over alleged stealing of 25mm iron rods, property of China Construction Engineering Company (CCEC) between Volks Bus Stop and Iyana Iba, in the State, offered a bribe of N500,000 to escape arrest.

Penpushing reports the Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi who made this known said the operatives attached to Area E Command, Festac in the state accosted five suspects in a Ford Bus with registration number FST 679 XZ, with the stolen goods.

The police spokesman explained that the operatives rejected the bribe offer and subsequently arrested the suspects with the stolen 25mm iron rods, and gave identities of the suspects as include: Lawal Saheed(40), Taofeek Adenigba(43), Ope Olowolayemo(28), Azeez Jamie(41) and Omotayo Adewale(34).

‘The suspects, when arrested by the police operatives, were alleged to have offered a bribe of Five Hundred Thousand only (N500,000) to the police operatives who rejected the offer and went ahead to arrest them with the stolen iron rods’, Adejobi disclosed.

Penpushing further reports that, Adejobi said other  items recovered from the suspects include one Nozzle, one gas cylinder and Ford Bus, adding that  the management of company has been contacted by the police and identified the stolen items to be their property.

The Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu, ordered that the matter be thoroughly investigated and the suspects be charged to court as soon as possible.

Penpushing also reports that, in similar development, the police operatives attached to Sagamu Road Division of Ikorodu, Lagos, arrested two suspects, Awosika Kehinde(24) and Olatilewa Ayomide(18) at Sabo Area of Ikorodu alleged to be using dummy gun to robbed innocent people.

The Command Public Relations said the suspects were accosted by the police on a motorcycle in Sabo area of Ikorodu,adding that after preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the suspects were using the dummy gun to scare their victims anytime they were on robbery operation, particularly in the traffic.

Penpushing further reports that, he said the suspects have been giving useful information to assist the police in the course of their investigation, stating that items recovered from them include one dummy beretta pistol and some assorted charms.

Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police has also directed that the suspects be transferred to the Command Special Squad for thorough investigation.
