Stakeholders converge on Abeokuta for sensitization of 330 KV Nigeria- Benin Interconnection reinforcement project

The stakeholders in the power sectors on Monday converged in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital for sensitization of the West Africa Power Pool, WAPP 330 KV Nigeria- Benin Interconnection reinforcement project.

Penpushing reports that the reinforcement project was executed by the Ministry of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria for the benefit of residents of number of communities in Ogun State, South-West of Nigeria.

The Head Resettlement Action Plan in Nigeria, Engineer Mamoud Abubakar during his presentation which had in attendance government agencies, Non-Governmental Organisations and journalists amongst others said the project has the inputs of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS)

Penpushing further reports that Abubakar, explained that twenty eight communities in Ado-Odo, Yewa North and South local governments will benefit from the proposed integration project, adding that the double circuit conduit line that will carry more energy is expected to take off near Atan along Idiroko road in Ado Odo -Ota local government and terminate at Onigbolu in Benin Republic.

The Head of Resettlement emphasized that the project is aimed at expanding the existing single circuit transmission line connecting Nigeria and Benin Republic, stressing that it will facilitate efficient energy trade in the Economic for Wests Africa States (ECOWAS) region.

Penpushing also reports that, representatives of the Federal Ministry or Environment, Mrs Modupeoluwa Odinnayo and her counterpart from Federal Ministry of Power, Engr Abimbola Ominiyi in their remarks noted that the project should be embraced by all, expressing optimism that it will expand energy access and promote economic development.
