Penpushing Media Editorial of December 14, 2025 titled “Nigeria”s Security Sector Governance: Putting More Boots on Ground” has attracted backings of some stakeholders in the country which called for the establishment of an emergency call/fusion centre as a policy to address the country’s insecurity.

Penpushing reports that in contributions to the position of the media outlet, the stakeholders pointed out that the establishment of a state-run Emergency call/Fusion Centre will provides a compelling blueprint for enhancing security and governance through technology and community engagement.

The stakeholders while giving kudos to Penpushing media for its positive civic responsibility through its editorial contents emphasised that Nigeria’s Northwest, a region mostly plagued by banditry, kidnapping, and cross-border criminal activities, particularly Kebbi state required an innovative, responsive, and intelligence-driven security architecture.

Penpushing further reports that they declared that dedicated call/fusion centre is not a luxury but a strategic necessity to protect citizens, secure economic activities, and restore stability, adding that a swift security response to terror attacks is vital, noting that porous borders with Republics of Niger and Benin make the country vulnerable to the influx of small arms, transnational bandits, and smugglers, who exploit the vast, un-policed terrain.

The stakeholders stressed that a fusion centre could serve as a hub for collating intelligence on cross-border movements and also noted that vast and sparsely populated terrain coupled with large landmass and scattered rural communities make conventional policing difficult and resource-intensive.

Penpushing also reports that the concerned stakeholders said state governments must partner with telecommunication providers to expand connectivity, adding that in the interim, the centre could integrate satellite communications for security outposts in remote areas.

They equally called for massive, multi-lingual (Hausa, Fulfulde, and other local languages) public awareness campaign via radio, religious institutions, and traditional rulers to educate citizens on how to use the service and to build trust in its effectiveness.

Penpushing reports that the stakeholders emphasised that government must establish clear protocols and a chain of command to ensure seamless collaboration between the Army, Police, NSCDC, and local vigilantes adding that the centre’s success hinges on its authority to dispatch the nearest and most appropriate security asset, regardless of agency
