Residents of Gaya, the headquarters of one of the four emirates scrapped by the Kano State Government last week, on Sunday embarked on a peaceful protest against the decision of the government led by Governor Abba Yusuf.

Penpushing reports that on Sunday residents of the community trooped out to protest the dissolution in the Gaya emirate and Rano, as eyewitness account claiming reported skirmishes and burning of used tyres in Bichi on Friday and Saturday.

The protesters in Gaya, were seen carrying placards with inscriptions in Hausa, conveying their disagreement with the Kano state government’s decision, describing the Governor’s position as political marginalisation

Penpushing further reports that some of the inscriptions on the placards reads, ‘The political marginalisation is too much leave our emirate to exist”, ‘The people of Gaya support the new emirate’, among others.

The Kano State House of Assembly it is recalled on Thursday passed a bill for the dissolution of the four emirates created by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and 24 hours after Governor Abba Yusuf signed the law and abolished the emirates of Gaya, Karaye, Rano and Bichi.

Penpushing also reports that in similar vein, the Governor ordered the reinstatement Lamido Sanusi, who was dethroned in March 2020 as the Emir of Kano, but one of the dethroned Emirs, Aminu Ado Bayero of Kano, rejected his removal.

The dethroned Bayero cited an order of the Federal High Court restraining the Governor Yusuf administration of sacking him, and in reaction the Governor argued that the judge who ruled against Sanusi reinstatement did that while outside the country, and threatened to report the judge for abuse of office.
