A renowned Philosophy Don at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye Professor Babajide Dasaolu is to deliver the institution’s 126th inaugural lecture, tackling a pressing issue at the intersection of morality, religion, and societal beliefs.

Penpushing reports that the lecture, titled “For the ‘Animal-Witches’ We Kill in the Name of God: A Moralist’s Petition,” is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the OGD Lecture Theatre, of the University Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye.

The event statement stated that the lecture promises to be a thought-provoking discourse, as Dasaolu, who specializes in African and Applied Ethics, takes on the challenge of examining controversial cultural narratives and debunking prevailing perceptions tied to superstition and religious justification for violence.

Penpushing further reports that as the current Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dasaolu brings a wealth of expertise to the table, and his lecture is expected to resonate with scholars, students, and members of the public interested in ethical discourse and contemporary religious issues.

The lecture is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m., with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m, while the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, will chair the event, ensuring a fitting platform for this important discussion.

Penpushing also reports that the statement added that for those unable to attend physically, the lecture will be accessible virtually via Zoom and YouTube livestream, opening up the conversation to a broader audience.

The statement said the topic of the lecture is particularly timely, given the ongoing debates on the role of religion and morality in shaping societal values, stressing that Dasaolu’s exploration of the morality of killing individuals accused of witchcraft, often under the guise of religious justification, promises to be a bold and necessary intervention.

Penpushing reports that the statement stated that by examining the complex web of cultural narratives and superstitions that underpin such violence, the lecture aims to challenge prevailing perceptions and spark a much-needed conversation.
