The former Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 Ogun State governorship election, Hon Adekunle Akinlade, has warned politicians against engaging in any form of political confrontation with Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Penpushing reports that Akinlade who recently decamped from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives (APC) gave the warning in a statement titled, “A man forged in the furnace of battles, setbacks, and victories’, emphasizing that anyone who pitches himself against Abiodun in Ogun state will fail.

The former running mate of Governorship Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Ladi Adebutu, declared support for Abiodun, explaining that his two electoral loses to the Governor in 2019 had convinced him that fighting him(Abiodun) will end up wasting time.

Penpushing further reports that he likened his political encounters with the Governor to ancient warfare, quoting military strategist Douglas MacArthur: “In war, there is no substitute for victory.”

The politician while reflecting on his political experiences, pointed out that two factors often determine the outcome of any contest: access and resources, stressing that Abiodun has remained determined inspite of all political distractions

“From experience, I know that two earthly tools determine the outcome of every battle, political or otherwise: access and resources. Today, GDA unapologetically holds both firmly in his pouch. So, when I see individuals attempting to knock their heads against his, I smile because I know firsthand the possible outcome’, he stated

Penpushing also reports that Akinlade declared that his respect for Abiodun was earned on the field, not from flattery spoken from afar, recalling predictions by sceptics after the 2019 elections that Ogun State would collapse under Abiodun’s leadership.

“Yet here we are, six years on, witnessing a state that has not only survived but entered the league of the most stable, productive, and successful states in Nigeria’, Akinlade added.

Penpushing reports that he equally highlighted achievements in infrastructure, governance, human capital development, and industrialisation — including Ogun’s reaffirmation as Nigeria’s industrial capital and the completion of what he described as one of the most advanced airports in the subregion.

The former chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who following his defeat in the 2023 election, alongside former chairman of the party, Hon Sikirulai Ogundele and supporters pitched their tents with Abiodun, referenced the analogy of ancient warriors, saying choosing battles wisely is not cowardice but strategy

Penpushing further reports that Akinlade who since joining the ruling party has been enjoying cordial political relationship with the Governor, however, cautioned aspirants ahead of 2027 general election to be wary of confronting the governor in any political battle, insisting he already knows how such confrontations end
