The Chairman Ogun State Chapter of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Arch Kunle Popoola  has advocated for competent and thoroughbred police officers in manning the front desks of all police stations across the country.

Penpushing reports that, Popoola made the call while speaking at Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) capacity building workshop for the Zone7 command of the police comprising of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger state commands held at the National University Commission auditorium, Abuja.

The High Chief noted that, it was high time the negative perception of the police assigned to oversee the front desks popularly known as ‘charge room” is improved upon, as a result of alleged unprofessional handling of the public making complaint or reporting a crime at the desks.

Penpushing further reports that, Popoola pointed out that, the desks are the first point of call for complainants, hence, need for good conduct and public relations, adding that it is important to assign experienced officers to take up the manning of the front desk to further improve the image of the police among the public.

The Chairman, National Capacity Building Committee  of the workshop, Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan in hos won remarks, noted that the workshop was aimed at finding a lasting solution to the numerous security challenges bedeviling Nigeria.

‘Today marks another turning point in collaboration between the Nigeria Police and the critical stakeholders in the country’s security architecture aimed at finding a lasting solution to the numerous security challenges bedeviling our Nation, Nigeria’, Olaniyan emphaised

.‘Our security challenges ranging from banditry, kidnapping, cultism, violent agitations, armed robbery, cattle rustling and other sundry crimes and criminalities has reached a level that calls for more concerted and decisive collaboration to stem the tide and bring back our country to the path of sanity and development’, he added.

Penpushing also reports that, he said the workshop has exposed the need for more awareness and advocacy to bring the people closer to security agencies in areas of exchange of information, credible and actionable intelligence, stressing that it is obvious that  security agencies cannot do the work alone.

‘This workshop is therefore an avenue to further empower members of the PCRC in furthering their roles in bridging the gap between the police and the teeming public. The issue of community policing and engagement is more required now than ever before’, Olaniyan said

Penpushing reports that, the committee boss posited that all hands must therefore be on deck to contribute individually to the safety and security of the country, advising that it was better to come up with workable solutions devoid of political, cultural or religious bias to finding a lasting solutions to various challenges in the area of security as well as equipping  members to be more proactive in the discharge of their duties
