Police Community Relations Committee identifies 20 measures to tackle banditry

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Kemta-Idi-Aba -Division in Abeokuta, Ogun state has identified twenty proactive measures to prevent and tackle bandits’ attacks and other criminal activities in communities.

Penpushing reports that this was contained in a communique issued at the end of stakeholders meeting organized in collaboration with Nigeria Police Force held at the committee hall within the premises of the Kemta-Idi-Aba Divisional Police headquarters in Abeokuta.

The committee disclosed that the measures include immediate action plans such as stoppage of alms begging in all communities, streets to checkmate imminent threats of banditry and terrorism in their environment.

Penpushing further reports that the communique advised Community Development Association (CDA) to dislodge all hiding places, pull down all kiosks in the community and restrict access to commercial motorcycle operators that cannot be identified and not registered

The meeting resolved that Community Development Association (CDA) should henceforth manned gates at all entrances to communities, employ at least 2 or 3 security personnel and kit security officers with touch light, walkie-talkie with whistle among other security equipment

Penpushing also reports that Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), emphasized that all houses should have whistle-blower at anytime, every street must have coordinating security personnel, as well as provision of CCTV solar lights in all streets within communities.

The meeting added that every street should restrict access to those buying used phones, metals among other accessories, adding that anyone coming to any street will be pre-approved by the Community Development Association (CDA) security committee before access can be provided.

Penpushing reports that other measures identified has it that the community should stop all wanderers, those using their compound to sleep, while people should go and rent accommodation. stressing that any erring landlords will be held liable.

The communique pointed out that all landlords should keep a record of all their tenants as they will be required, and all Community Development Association (CDA) should compile a list of all empty houses where bandits are or could be for a possible takeover by government

Penpushing further reports that the meeting agreed that all churches and mosques should sensitize their members on the imminent threats of bandits and all Community Development Association (CDA) should restrict access between hours of 10pm and 5am, while houses with people with questionable characters and operations should immediately be reported to their chairman and the police.

The communique stated that each Community Development Association (CDA) should install Central loud alarm system and circulate numbers of security personnel for their community, areas and state, and immediate shut down of all unapproved market places in the community, as well as explore the use of drones for surveillance.
