The former Governor of Kano State and chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has been suspended for his alleged involvement in the disruption of the party’s recent North-west zonal congress in Kaduna State.

Penpushing reports that, the party’s executive committee in the state, pronounced Kwankwaso suspension for three months at its meeting held on April 15, having being accused of thuggery, disrespect to the party’s governors and stakeholders, and disrupting a democratic process.

The party in the suspension letter signed by the  secretary in the state, H.A Tsanyawa, said it received numerous complaints from members of the party over the incident of North-west convention where Kwankwaso allegedly led his supporters into a shameful and embarrassing act.

“The executive council meeting held on 15th April, 2021 have unanimously resolved to suspend you and your supporters from the party activities for three months in accordance with the provision of section 58 (1) of the PDP constitution’, the letter reads.

Penpushing further reports that the zonal congress penultimate Saturday was disrupted by violent party members, which brought the exercise to  abrupt end after the supporters of  Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, clashed with those of  Kwankwaso.

The clash resulted in destruction of the ballot boxes before voting, a development which forced, election officials and  observers to flee the scene, while it is observed that the genesis of the crisis was traced to  the dispute on the position of zonal National Vice Chair, where the factions of Kwankwaso and a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, presented different candidates.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this reports the State Chairman of the party, Shehu Sagagi, said to be loyal to Kwankwaso’s faction, could not be reach for his comment on the suspension letter
