Oyo State Governor’s wife calls for equality for women in society

The Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr(Mrs) Tamunominini Makinde has called for equal treatment of women in the society, saying that there is need to protect womens right so as to secure the betterment of their wellbeing.

Penpushing reports that speaking on behalf of the wife of the governor, the Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Saani during the 2021 International Women’s Day, theme: “Women in Leadership: “Achieving an Equal Future in Covid-19 World” noted that the Day is celebrated on 8th of March annually to showcase achievements of women while attention is drawn to the other areas where the right of women are infringed upon.

The Governor’s wife pointed out that women should have the same right as their male counterparts, boasting that women in top position in Nigeria are doing extremely better than men.

“What a man can do, women can do better, let us join politics so that we can also attained greater height so that they can stop treating us like second class citizens in our father’s land”,Makinde declared.

Penpushing further reports that, she pointed out that the theme for this year celebration “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in Covid-19 World” is relevant at this crucial period considering the effect of  coronavirus pandemic globally as it touches all spheres of human lives, particularly Nigerian women.

“Women are most hit by the pandemic because women are wives to the dying husbands and they are mothers to sons and daughters who lost their lives to the virus, it is imperative to equipped women technically, professionally, educationally and skillfully to forestall any future pandemic”.

Penpushing reports that Sanni, however thanked the wife of the governor for tirelessly working towards the upliftment of women in the state, saying that her humanitarian services to the state cannot be over emphasized.

The commissioner urged women to do whatever they can do to make positive difference for themselves, saying that the gathering will be an aspiring one where women will be broadened in ensuring women advancement in the society.

Penpushing also reports that the chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly House Committee on Women Affairs, Hon. Wunmi Oladeji who was represented by the chairperson of the National Association Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State chapter, Comrade Jadesola Ajibola noted that the Governor has accented to the Violence Against Persons Law (VAPL), thanking him for his passion towards issue affecting women, children and the less privileged in the society.

The Chairperson also thanked the wife of the governor for her support towards upliftment of women in the state, calling for the inclusion of Child Education in the school curriculum across the state.

Penpushing reports that, in her remarks, the chairperson of Federation of Woman Lawyer, Oyo State branch, Deborah Collins said that its high time for Nigerian women to speak out in any challenges they are facing, adding that many groups are ready and willing to rendered assistance for women in whatever situations they find themselves.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day wife of the Governor was accompanied by top women in government to walk around the city in commemoration of this years International Women’s Day.
