The authorities  of Owu kingdom, located in Orile Owu,  Irewolede Local Government of Osun State, ancestral home of the Owu indigenes have commenced preparations for the its national convention, ahead of return of displaced indigenes  to their root.

Penpushing reports that, the Olowu of Orile-Owu, Oba Dau’d Ajolola Akinfalabi, made this known on Sunday during a meeting conveyed by the President of the Royal Union of Owu People (RUOP.

The traditional ruler disclosed that  this move was aimed to encourage the indigenes to rebuild their ancestral homes, adding that towards this, 40 acres of land, has been allocated  as first phase of resettling

Penpushing further reports that, Akinfalabi who noted that the Owus are like Israelites, are known to have scattered to many parts of Nigeria in the course of the devastating war in their domain in 1821.

The royal father said, it was high and appropriate time for the indigenes who were full of joy and excitement at the meeting to start home coming process, and rebuild the ancient town, stressing that there is no place like home

Penpushing also reports that, the monarch called on all Owu people whose pedigrees were dispersed from Owu Ipole two centuries ago consequent upon the intra-clannish war, should start preparation to return to Orile Owu.

The traditional ruler who chaired the meeting refreshed with the horrors of the war that dispersed their pedigrees from Owu Ipole, now Orile Owu, exactly 200 years ago, stressing that it was not too late to rebuild the over two hundred town.

Penpushing reports that, Akinfalabi   told the meeting which was to prepare for the national convention of Owu people in December that whatever yoke placed by adversaries to inhibit resettlement in Orile Owu, had been broken by the collective spirits of the ancestors.

The President of the Royal Union of Owu People (RUOP) and convener of the meeting, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade expressed the gratitude of all Owu people outside the homestead to Olowu and the Owu people at the home for their hospitality and willingness to re-accommodate their brethren who had been dispersed two centuries ago

Penpushing further reports that, Akinbade   announced that at the forthcoming national convention of the Owu people in December, the union would lay the foundation of its national secretariat on the site allocated at Orile Owu, calling also for other allottees of land at Orile Owu to do same without delay.

The skirmishes  between an Ijebu trader and his Owu customer at Apomu international market in 1821,it is recalled escalated to a war which destroyed several ancient Yoruba settlements, while the outcome of the war also marked a defined narrative about the foundation of modern several townships including Abeokuta and Ibadan where the Egbas and other Yoruba clans including the Owu people, share neighbourhood.
