The Ogun State Head of Service Kehinde Onasanya has enjoined civil servants to embrace training opportunities for self-improvement as stepping stones towards achieving greater efficiency and accountability in their respective duties.

Penpushing reports that Onasanya made the charge while declaring open a one-day training, with the theme, ‘’Effective Project Implementation at the Grassroot”, for Local Government Engineers, Builders, Estate/Valuation and Technical Officers in the Local Government Service Commission, organised by the Commission, in conjunction with the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abeokuta Branch, at Abiola Way, Abeokuta.

The number one civil servant said the State government was fully committed to supporting initiatives that would equip the workforce with the necessary expertise and resources for effective service delivery, adding that capacity building training programmes should not be seen as mere formalities but essential elements in developing an efficient and capable public service system.

Penpushing further reports that he pointed out that the growing State’s economy was catalysed by the meticulous planning of the Governor Abiodun-led administration, which is embedded in his ISEYA mantra, hence the resolve to train the public servants, as the engine room of government and governance, for efficient and effective delivery.

The Head of Service equally urged the participants to take full advantage of the knowledge gained at the training and apply the principles learned to their daily work to improve project delivery in their various Local Government Areas, as their contribution to the development and welfare of the people.

Penpushing also reports that the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Local Government Commission, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, earlier underscored the need to train and retrain the workforce, who were saddled with responsibilities of providing the essential public goods and services, such as roads, schools and healthcare facilities.

The Permanent Secretary added that the one-day training for the professionals in the built industry across the twenty local government areas of the State was imperative, in order to meet the people’s expectations from the local government workers, as the third tier of government moves towards achieving financial autonomy.

Penpushing reports that in their separate goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretaries in the Bureaux of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Bolaji Fajounbo; Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye and Local Government Pensions, Engr. Olufisan Osiyale, urged the participants to take the advantage of the training to better their performances, seek more knowledge and embrace professionalism, so as to be in tandem with global standards and distinguish themselves in their chosen profession.
