The Ogun State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya has charged medical personnel in the state health facilities to ensure the effective management and coordination of health care services which guarantee uninterrupted quality healthcare delivery across all hospitals in the State.

Penpushing reports that Onasanya gave the charge while declaring open a 3-day retreat for the Management Staff, Heads of facilities as well as top medical personnel in the State Hospitals Management Board (HMB).

The theme of the conference held at the Rolak Hotel, Ijebu Ode town, was “Strategic Leadership and Management as Panacea for Effective, Efficient and Qualitative Healthcare Delivery”.

Penpushing further reports that he stated that to guarantee uninterrupted quality healthcare in their various domains include prudent management of finances through proper budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting, as well as collecting, analysing and reporting health data, identifying training needs and strategically planning healthcare services.

The Head of Service described capacity building as the way to go as it continues to lead to successes in all endeavours, stressing that investing in the training and professional growth of the workforce is non-negotiable.

Penpushing also reports that Onasanya said it remains at the front burner of the worker-friendly governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who is keen at providing continuous education, skills development and cultivating a culture of engagement and support to the workforce.

The Head of Service, added that the Governor has been unequivocal in his promise under the I.S.E.Y.A. mantra, to enhance healthcare service delivery across the state pointing out that the retreat should serve as means to strengthening healthcare delivery in all hospitals in the State.

Penpushing reports that Onasanya urged the participants to ensure that the outcomes of their deliberations are practical and impactful and also align with the vision of the present administration

The number one civil servant said as strategic leaders, their roles transcend managing facilities, but entail crafting a vision that addresses contemporary realities that anticipate the demands of tomorrow.

Penpushing further reports that he emphasized that, the hospitals must be well equipped, workforce adequately empowered and patients receive the highest standards of care, and advised that the top echelons’ leadership must inspire confidence, instill discipline and promote innovation in all their strides.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker on her part said the governor when he assumed office in 2019 promised an improvement in the health indices of the people, set out a road map by investing in infrastructure at the first instance and now investing in human resources development.

Penpushing also reports that Coker stated that this was why the personnel were gathered to review the journey so far and map out strategies on way forward for more efficient service delivery to the citizenry.

The Commissioner said as important stakeholders in the health sector, they must have good perceptions of issues, go through a process to achieve set objectives of the administration, know the type of people to deliver quality healthcare to.

Penpushing reports that Coker called on participants to always review all tasks carried out and gather data, in order to have informed information and take critical decisions for the betterment of the sector.

The Special Advisers to the Governor on Health, Dr. Tayo Lawal and Dr. Rotimi Ogungbe, as well as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, in their various goodwill messages lauded the leaders for keeping fate with their responsibilities by not leaving the country, in order to improve the health service delivery

Penpushing further reports that they equally charged the participants to reflect on past dealings for better improvement, and look inwards to get more equipment for their good use.

The Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, earlier in a welcome speech appreciated the governor, for the conducive environment created for the sector to thrive, having benefitted immensely from government’s largesse via various interventions and solicited for more support to make it thrive the more.

Penpushing also reports that participants including Dr. Bunmi Osinaike, Dr. Temitope Yomibo-Sofolahan, Mrs. Eunice Abatan and Dr. Gabriel Taiwo in separate interviews said the strategic retreat was timely and impressive, as it has given them the opportunity of appraisal of work done so far, in order to have overall improvement and deliver optimally the objectives of the government.

The participants appreciated the organisers and the state government, in particular, for giving it to them free, and pledged to imbibe all that was learnt by translating it to practical terms as well as cascade it down to other cadres of members of staff.
