Ogun State Government on Monday formally unveiled, a cultural magazine, known OGUNREWA designed to document and promote the state’s heritage, at a public presentation held June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta

Penpushing reports that Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi speaking during the presentation, said the magazine represents a major step in preserving the state’s identity and telling its cultural story to the world.

The Commissioner explained that Ogun state cultural wealth expressed through festivals, historical sites, traditional cuisines, music, and artistic expressions serves not only as a symbol of identity but also as a tool for tourism growth, community unity, creativity, and economic development.

Penpushing further reports that he described OGUNREWA as a “platform for capturing and showcasing the state cultural identity, noting that the publication provides a literary archive that celebrates Ogun’s diverse cultural narratives.

The Commissioner added that the daily edition of the magazine will continue to support research, education, cultural promotion, and tourism development within and beyond the state.

Penpushing also reports that Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, in her remarks reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting cultural heritage and expanding the tourism sector.

The Deputy Governor assured that Ogun state government said will keep investing in cultural centres, heritage sites, festivals, and other initiatives that strengthen community identity and boost the creative economy.

Penpushing reports that Salako-Oyedele commended donors who supported the magazine’s production and encouraged cultural practitioners, artists, historians, writers, and students to collaborate in sustaining the publication.

The number two citizen of the state described the magazine as an important channel for projecting the traditions of Egba, Yewa, Ijebu and other groups to the global community.

Penpushing further reports that she noted that documenting culture has become even more important in today’s interconnected world, adding that the magazine will make Ogun state heritage more accessible to people within and outside the state.

The event attracted cultural stakeholders, writers, scholars, photographers, and tourism enthusiasts, who applauded the initiative as a significant step towards preserving Ogun State’s cultural legacy, while dignatries include Ogun State Head of Service Kehinde Onasanya and Mrs Yemi Olanrewaju among others
