Ogun state government offers land for zonal headquarters of Institute of Directors

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has promised to offer land for the construction of zonal headquarters for  Institute of Director(IOD), situated in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that, the Governor made the pledge when the President of the Institute, Chief Chris Okunowo led his executive and leadership with members of the Abeokuta branch on a courtesy call.

The Governor who is a fellow of the institute commended the leadership skills of Okunowo, as well as the choice of Iyalode Alaba Lawson as the Chairman of the Abeokuta branch, which oversees other states in the South-West

Penpushing further reports that, Abiodun in his speech during the visit, immediately directed the State Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi to commence process for the allocation of the land

The entourage of the President include Dr(Mrs) Ije Jidenma, the 1st Vice President, who is to take over from Okunowo whose two year tenure expires in the next few weeks, Alhaji Tijjani Borodo(2nd Vice President),Iyalode Alaba Lawson(Chairman, Abeokuta branch), Chief Bode Mustapha(Vice Chairman, Abeokuta branch), Dr Femi Majekodunmi,(Vice Chairman of Welfare of the Institute)Toyin Sogbesan(Secretary,Abeokuta branch) Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji(member),Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye(member) and Damola Ade-Onajobi.

Penpushing also reports that, the President earlier in his speech explained that the institute is the apex professional body in Nigeria with a mandate to cater for and represents Directors in their individual capacities across the various sectors of the economy

‘It has made significant and highly impressive strides, working closely with government, corporate organizations, bilateral chambers and diplomatic missions to raise the standard of corporate governance and leadership in the private and public sectors. This, turn has attracted worthy and qualitative members of the Institute’, Okunowo said.

The Institute leader emphasised that the body is committed to its cardinal objective of sharpening the professional skills of Directors, business leaders, technocrats, top level civil and public servants through its internationally recognized recognized Director Development Programmes

Penpushing reports that, in similar vein, the institute paid a courtesy call on former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his penthouse located within the premises of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

The former President while hosting the body, advised professional bodies in the country  to use their wealth of experience to help the nation’s  economy, adding that with the current economy prevailing challenge facing  the nation, it is imperative for the professional bodies to come forward with their experience to help in rebuilding the nation

Penpushing further reports that, Obasanjo explained that Nigeria economy needs to move from where it is now in order to make the nation more habitable and stand out among the comity of nations, while he  promised to support the body to achieve its goals of promoting professionalism i the south west and the nation in general

The President of the institute, in his remarks said the visit to Obasanjo  was to seek for his blessing and support for the organization in the zone adding that the visit to the state would also afford the association to beckon on Nigerians who have impacted positively in nation building.

Penpushing also reports that, the body equally paid a courtesy visit to Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadeo in his palace, and took time to embark on business courtesy visits to International Breweries and Apple and Pearson Company located along Abeokuta-Sagamu expressway

Meanwhile, the President thereafter led other members to commission the signpost of the Abeokuta branch of the Institute, while  the two day  programme which was designed by the branch as sentforth for Okunowo was rounded up with a dinner at Legacy Resort, within the premises of Olusegun Obasanjo with gifts presentation to both the outgoing and incoming President
