The Ogun State Government has commenced the distribution of over 23,000 loaded Debit cards to beneficiaries under the Federal Government’s Social Protection Programmes, known as Household Prosperity and Empowerment – Cash Transfer (HoPE-CT).
Penpushing reports that a statement by the press officers of Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Ramoni Wasiu and Jane Ihimire explained that the project is part of the Nigerian Government’s efforts to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable households and ameliorate their conditions across the nation,
The statement added that Programme Manager, State Cash Transfer Unit, Mr Damilola Olufemi Owoojuona speaking at the distribution to beneficiaries at Odeda Local Government Area, said the exercise would be conducted across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State,
The Programme Manager added that it will to provide direct financial support to thousands of eligible households mined from the National Social Register, stating that the initiative was a grant which is in three tranches of ₦25,000) per tranche, totalling ₦75,000.
Penpushing further reports that he reaffirmed the agency commitment to work closely with the Nigerian Government to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive the support in a transparent and accountable manner through NIN biometric verification.
“The distribution of the additional 23,000 Debit Cards follows earlier phases of the HoPE-CT programme in Ogun State and 1,281 cards was meant for distribution in the exercise at Odeda Local Government Area, and this underscores the government’s determination to ensure that more households benefit from the initiative”, he said
Penpushing also reports that Owooojuna advised the beneficiaries to safeguard their Debit Cards and comply with the programme guidelines, while three of the beneficiaries Mr Lukmon Sofela, Mrs Ojedeyi Serifat, and Mrs Olabode Elizabeth speaking one behalf of others expressed appreciation for the intervention and promised to make judicious use of the fund for their households.
