Obasanjo commends Lanre Tejuoso for promoting Yoruba culture through academics

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Senator Lanre Tejuoso on his initiative in organizing Annual Egba Dialect Debate and Choral Competitions among secondary schools in Ogun Central Senatorial District of Ogun State.

Penpushing reports that Obasanjo gave the commendation on Thursday at the grandfinale of the competition held at Main Auditorium Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, the State Capital.

The former President pointed out the importance of promoting Yoruba culture, custom and tradition, adding that Yoruba parades best tradition in the world, and emphasized the need to sustain it in the interest of the race.

‘What you are doing is commendable. I am impressed with what I saw. I don’t know any other race that has rich customs, culture and tradition value like the Yoruba race. It is only Yoruba that has Oriki, It is only Yoruba that has names with meaning’, Obasanjo emphasized

Penpushing further reports that Obasanjo in response to the debate by the students on topic, ‘Is Women Ripe to Rule Nigeria’, said women are matured enough to rule, stressing that there are number of competent among them who are fit to lead the country

‘It is right time for women to rule Nigeria. What men can do, women can also do better. They have right and competent. This is my personal view. A hand cannot carry a load on the head. They need to be supported’, he emphasized.

Penpushing also reports that, Obasanjo commended the participating students and their teachers for displaying competence and skills on their various presentations, stressing that sound education is antidote to good life

The well attended ceremony had in attendance personalities which include: Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr(Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Chief Doja Adewolu, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, Chief Bode Mustapha, Toun Okewale-Sonaiya and Rt Hon Suraj Adekunbi

Penpushing reports that others are Osile Oke-Ona Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso and his Oloris, (Omolara, Yetunde and Olabisi) Iyalode of Yorubaland, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, represented by Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, Senator Gbenga Kaka, traditional rulers which include Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola among others.

The participating schools include: Abeokuta Grammar School, Alaba Lawson Yoyal College, Oba Community High School, Nawairdudeen Grammar School, Obantoko, Abeokuta Girls Grammar School, Egba Owode Grammar School Oke-Ona Grammar School, Kobape Community Grammar School, Premier Grammar School, Adenrele High School, Ifo, Rev Kuti Memorial Grammar, Adeoye Lambo Memorial High School

Penpushing further reports that Egba-Owode Grammar School came first in the Egba debate category, followed by Abeokuta Girls Grammar School which came second and Oba community High School winning the third position

The choral category was led by Abeokuta Grammar School winning the first position, while Alaba Lawson Royal College coming second, and Nawaiurdeen Grammar School Obantoko emerging third position.

Penpushing also reports that all the winning schools were presented trophies and cash gift which were presented on behalf of the organizer by Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Senator Gbenga Kaka, Olori Omolara Tejuoso and Otunba Oyewole Fasawe respectively
