The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) , Ogun State Headquarters  is facing serious challenges for effective operations, as investigations revealed that, the management lacks adequate and necessary facilities to attend to applicants of the National Identification Number(NIN)

Penpushing reports that, a check at the office located along the Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta, which is a stone throw to the headquarters of the Department of Security Service (DSS), lacks facilities which include electricity among others.

The applicants are also victims of the non availability of facilities, while the most worrisome is dilapidated generating set, which has remains non-functional for months and hindered the process of attending to hundreds of applicants for the National Identification Number (NIM)

Penpushing further reports that, anytime the electricity body switched off, applicants have to wait endlessly, until when electricity is restore, as the generating set of the commission has been overgrown with weeds.

The applicants on many occasions will be waiting until the closing of work, and had to be advice to come the following day, which is not also a guarantee that, normalcy would  have return, while findings equally showed that, many applicants have spent over one week unsuccessfully to get their identification numbers.

Penpushing also reports that, the departmental offices of the commission have become an eye sore, with tattered chairs, leaked roof, dilapidated wall, as well as bushy surroundings, which has turned an abode for reptiles.

The staffers of the commission and number of applicants were seen sweating profusely inside the office, following non availability of power supply, as many of them engaged in the use of hand fan, to cool off the heat

Penpushing reports that, number of applicants found to be stranded who spoke during an interview expressed disappointment over the plight of the commission, adding that, many of them have been on endless mission to secure their identification number

‘As you can see us sitting outside here, we have to relocate to the open space of the hospital, when we could no longer bear the hot weather in the office. We are told that, the generating set is no more functional for a long time, and the only source is through the electricity company, but ironically no restoration of power supply over hours ago’, an applicant said

I can tell you that, I have been coming here for over one week, but no headway, because there is  no electricity supply. We are always asked to wait until when electricity is restored by the electricity company, which nobody can rely on’, another applicant stated

‘Infact, there are occasion where we will wait until close of the day, and we have to leave, having waited endlessly without electricity supply, and advised to come back the following, only to continue hearing same old story. Honestly, personally am fed up, Nothing is working in this country again. How can a federal government agency could not afford providing reliable and functional generating set’,she emphasized
