National Delegates Conference: Ogun state journalists celebrate Isiguzo’s election victory

The Ogun State Journalists on Friday celebrated the victory and re-election of Chris Isiguzo as President of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) at the just concluded national delegates conference held  at the Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Abia State.

Penpushing reports that, delegates from Ogun state  on arrival late evening of Friday to  Iwe-Iroyin  Press Centre located at Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta, the state capital, could not hold back their joy over the resounding victory, which also concise with 42nd birthday anniversary of Hakeem Adegbenro, correspondent of Blueprint newspapers, who is also a delegate.

The joyful delegates on arrival from Abia state after a successful trip, majestically disembarked from their buses, and engaged in profuse dance and songs to celebrate the election of Isiguzo and his team  who were democratically elected

Penpushing further reports that, the victorious delegates declared that, the victory of Isiguzo was divine, adding that in view of the failed attempt by some group of  people to stall the election and disrupt the process, God was in control

The Seventh Triennial Delegates Conference, it is recalled took place on Thursday at the Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Abia State, with journalists across the country fully participating in a peaceful manner.

Penpushing also reports that,the Returning Officer, Joe Ajaero, who is the Deputy President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) disclosed that, 704 delegates were accredited for the election.

Penpushing further reports that, Ajaero, added that, there were 934 registered delegates, adding that 22 votes were voided, while the results also showed that four other members of Isiguzo’s team were returned unopposed.

The elected candidates at the peacefully conducted election  included Alhassan Abdullahi (National Deputy President), Dele Atunbi (National Treasurer), Samuel Dada (National Financial Secretary) and Ladi Emmanuel (National Internal Auditor).

Penpushing also reports that,, Emmanuel Ifesinachi and Adiukwu Ezenwa were returned unopposed as Vice President and Secretary of Zone C, respectively, while  Sambo Korede and Alege Abdulrazak were returned unopposed as Vice President and Secretary for B Zone, respectively.

The Zone E elected candidates are  Zara Baba and Gimba Suleiman who were returned unopposed as the Vice President and Secretary, respectively, and similar development positions contested for was  the Vice President in Zone D, where  Christopher Atsaka polled 93 votes to defeat Atabor Ali and Garba Iliya, who scored 57 and 14 votes, respectively,

Penpushing also reports that in Zone D, Samson Aji scored 108 votes as against Fadeyi Adeola’s 58 votes for Secretary, while Muhammad Umar emerged Vice President, Zone A, after polling 37 votes to defeat Abdullahi Yanadi, who scored one vote.

The results for the office of the Secretary in Zone D,, Bello Abdulrazak polled 35 votes to defeat Zainab Rigim, who scored two votes, and in  Zone F, Dokubo Opakamaba scored 99 votes to defeat Nene Affia, who polled 40 votes for Vice President.

Penpushing reports that, John Angesse recorded 107 votes to defeat Stanley Imgbi, who polled 33 votes, for the position of the Secretary, and as at the time of filing this report all the elected officers have been sworn in.

The President in his  acceptance speech, expressed appreciation to members for the “overwhelming support” given to him and other members of the outgone National Working Committee of the union.

Penpushing further reports that, the re-elected boss of the union, called on every member to join hands with him in his quest to reposition the union, promising to do much better in his second term.
