The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Chairmen Forum in Nigeria, Hon. Henry Fagbenro, has observed that the events of June 12, 1993 is a defining moment that reshaped national consciousness around democracy, civic responsibility, and the will of the people.
Penpushing reports that Fagbenro in a press statement to mark the historic day stated that, in addition democracy day remains a solemn reminder of Nigeria’s history, emphasizing that June 12 continues to represent the voice of the people
The politician popularly known as Agbomola pointed out that the annulled presidential election, in which Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola is widely regarded as the winner, remains a symbol of the people’s struggle for justice, fairness, and protection of electoral choice.
“June 12 continues to represent the voice of the people and the sacrifices made to ensure that democracy is sustained as a system rooted in participation and accountability’, Fagbenro added
Penpushing further reports that he stressed that these ideals remain central to Nigeria’s democratic evolution, and reflecting on his experience during the democratic struggles of that era, said the lessons of that period remain relevant in strengthening civic awareness and sustaining democratic values across generations.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain emphasized the need to deepen democratic practice at the grassroots, noting that citizens remain central to governance through participation, engagement, and involvement in community development and national discourse.

The renowned politician maintained that leadership at both the national and state levels remain committed to strengthening institutions, expanding opportunities, and improving the welfare of citizens, while noting that sustained efforts are required to deepen democratic dividends.
