The Institute of Business Analytics of Nigeria (IBAN) on Thursday inducted seven founding fellows, at its maiden induction with the theme, Honoring the Pioneers of Business Analytics Excellence in Nigeria’, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital
Penpushing reports that Patron of the body who is Fiwagbayi of Egbaland, High Chief Joju Fadairo, conducted the ceremony, which include presentation of certificates and taking oath by the inductees
The pioneer President of the institute, Dr. Olu-Young Johnson Olusegun, described Institute of Business Analytics of Nigeria (IBAN) as a legacy established to transform how organisations make decisions through the strategic use of data.
Penpushing further reports that he pointed out that Nigeria’s journey towards a sustainable digital economy depends on embracing data-driven leadership, emphasizing that institutions built on vision outlive individual accomplishments.
“After all is said and done, there are four things one will leave behind, memories, souvenirs, trophies and legacies. Three of these are temporary. Memories can be forgotten, souvenirs and trophies can be discarded, but legacies remain. IBAN is a legacy that will outlast us because it is more permanent than memories, souvenirs, medals or trophies,” he stated.
Penpushing also reports that he explained that effective leadership and management cannot exist without reliable data, stressing that planning, organising, staffing, directing and controlling organisational resources all depend on sound data analysis.
The President identified three critical ingredients required for data-driven leadership in Nigeria: a robust legal and institutional framework, deliberate investment in human capital, and a cultural shift from routine data collection to evidence-based decision-making.
Penpushing reports that Johnson explained that, the institute was established from the conviction that organisations must move beyond gathering information to using data strategically in shaping policies, improving performance and driving development.
“The institute came to be as a result of our understanding that there is need for a culture shift from mere data collection to the use of data as a strategic tool for decision making in organisations,” he said.
Penpushing further reports that earlier, Patron of the body, commended the founders for establishing what he described as a lasting legacy despite the challenges of building a new professional body.
“I really commend you because it is not easy for people to come together to achieve something that would be a source of legacy. I urge members to remain united, persevere and uphold professionalism’, Fadairo said.
Penpushing also reports that the Egba High Chief pointed out that as a new institute, Institute of Business Analytics of Nigeria (IBAN) must distinguish itself through excellence and ethical conduct to earn public confidence.
The patron assured the institute of his continuous support, expressing confidence in its leadership to build a credible professional body capable of shaping Nigeria’s future through business analytics.
Penpushing reports that those inducted as Foundation Fellows included High Chief Joju Fadairo, (Patron), Dr. Olu-Young Johnson Olusegun (Pioneer President), Dr. Emmanuel Olatubosun Sowunmi (Pioneer Registrar), Dr Muideen Adejare Isiaka (The visioneer) and Dr. Oladipo Gbeminiyi Seyi (Founding Fellow and Council member),
