The Abia State Governor Alex Otti has assured Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), that he would secure his release from prison, where he is currently serving a life imprisonment having being found guilty of terrorism charges.
Penpushing reports that Otti, gave assurance when he visited the convict in Sokoto prison, adding that he will resolve Kanu’s issues with the Nigerian government for him to regain freedom.
The Governor in a statement by his media aide Ferdinand Ekeoma, said the Governor while discussing with Kanu during the visit, encouraged him to remain calm and strong, assuring him (Kanu) that the engagements he (the governor) started over two years ago, which Kanu has been aware of, have been intensified despite the life imprisonment.
Penpushing further reports that the statement added that Otti equally assured Kanu that the issue would be resolved administratively and he (Kanu) will regain his freedom, stressing that he (Otti) is excited that the Sultan of Sokoto is also in support of the need for Kanu’s freedom and de-escalation of tension in South-East Nigeria.
The statement stated that the Governor disclosed to Kanu that the Sultan of Sokoto had on a lighter note told him (Otti) that he (Kanu) is now his subject and he was going to turban him, information said to made Kanu laughing loudly.
Penpushing also reports that the statement said Kanu, while responding, thanked the Governor for the visit, adding that he was not surprised by the quick visit after the conviction, given that the governor had done a similar thing in the past.
The convict emphasized that he is only interested in good governance and anything that could improve the people’s lives, and commended the governor for his giant strides in Abia state, adding he was impressed with his performance which he said was based on the feedback he gets from the South-eastern state.
