The Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has casted his vote at his polling unit in Ede North during the governorship election on Saturday, however, alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) planned to bypass the prescribed process for collating election results.
Penpushing reports that Adeleke who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party (AP) ticket warned that such a move would be unacceptable, but also expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious.
The Governor while addressing journalists after voting, claimed he had received information that election results might be taken directly to the state collation centre instead of passing through the legally prescribed stages.
“I have it on authority that they (INEC) don’t want to go through the normal process of units to wards and to local government. They just want to take it all the way to the collation centre, and that is not acceptable,” he said.
Penpushing further reports that the governor insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must adhere to the established collation process, emphasizing that the commission follow the rule, adding that, that is why he is alerting his people to watch out
The Governor, however, did not provide evidence to support the allegation, and while as at the time of filing this report the commission could not be immediately reach for comments.
Penpushing also reports that as voting and collation continue, attention is expected to shift to the commission’s management of the results process amid scrutiny from political parties and election observers.
