The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that four occupants of the helicopter crash on Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja Lagos State on Tuesday afternoon have been retrieved from the aircraft alive.

Penpushing reports that Permanent Secretary of the agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed this in a statement adding that the victims which include the pilot have been transferred to hospital for further care

‘The agency has activated its disaster response plan to the incident which occurred around 1600hrs. A helicopter containing 4 persons including the pilot crash landed in front of THE United Bank of Africa branch on the road’, Oke-Osanyintolu recalled.

‘All four causalities have been retrieved from the aircraft alive. They have been transferred to the hospital for further care. The area has been condoned off and is being blanketed to prevent a secondary incident. All emergency responders are on the scene’, he stated

Penpushing further reports earlier the spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Tunji Oketunbi, confirmed the development, as well as an official of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) stating that the aircraft burst into flames when the incident happened.

The Zonal Coordinator for South-West of the National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) Ibrahim Farinloye, on the agency’s official WhatsApp platform, said though the identity of the operator of the helicopter was yet unknown, but affirmed that those onboard were all rescued alive.

Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that a similar incident occurred in August 2020 when a helicopter operated by Quorom Aviation crashed in the Opebi area of Lagos, having dropped from the sky around 12 noon and crashed into a residential building on Salvation Road in the Opebi area, and claimed the three persons onboard.
