Former Nigerian Judge, Justice Rita Ajumogobia was on Wednesday re-arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) before Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged money laundering.

Penpushing reports that, Ajumogobia, facing trial before Justice Mohammed Liman, is re-arraigned on a 15 counts charge bordering on money laundering and breach of public trust.

The counsel to the commission, Suleiman Suleiman, before Ajumogobia re-arraignment, had applied to the court to withdraw the name of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN), Godwin Obla, who had earlier been charged alongside the former judge

Penpushing further reports that, the court granted the request and name of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) name was accordingly withdrawn, and therefore, the former Federal High Court Judge (Ajumogobia), becomes the sole defendant in the amended charge.

The former judge when re-arraigned pleaded not guilty to all counts brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and following her  plea, the prosecution then applied for a trial date to enable it call its witnesses.

Penpushing also reports that, the defence counsel, Mobolaji Kuji, urged the court to allow the defendant continue on the terms and conditions of bail earlier given by another judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, before whom the Ajumogobia had earlier been arraigned.

The judge, Justice Mohammed Liman in a brief ruling, ordered that the defendant continues on the bail earlier granted thereafter, adjourned the case until April 21 and April 28 for trial.
