The first Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande who ruled from October 1, 1979 and December 31, 1983 before the military takeover has been reported dead at 91
Penpushing reports that, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed the sad incident, adding that the veteran journalist and politician of note died on Thursday morning, and also expressed condolence.
”With gratitude to God for a worthy life well spent in the service of Lagos State, Nigeria and humanity, I announce the death of a venerable statesman, outstanding politician, public administrator and the first Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande”.
Penpushing further reports that, the late politician, popularly called ‘Baba Kere’, because of his loyalty to late Chief Obafemi Awowolo, was after the military takeover, served under the administration of late former Head of State, General Sanni as Minister of Works under General Sani Abacha military government.
The administration of deceased who was born on July 23, 1929 attracted a lot of development to Lagos based on five cardinal programmes of his party, Unity Party of Nigeria(UPN) led by former Premier of the Western Region, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
