The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the certificates of return to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and his Deputy, Olayide Adelami who won the Saturday’s Governorship election in Ondo State

Penpushing reports that the certificates were presented to the duo by the National Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kunle Ajayi on Wednesday at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

The presentation of the certificates comes as the   elections results were being challenged by the Governorship candidate Agboola Ajayi has vowed to drag the electoral commission and the winners to court,

Penpushing further reports that the Governor who contested with his Deputy under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was accompanied by the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and other members of the party.

The elected Governor who is also the incumbent was pronounced the winner of the elections after he secured 366,781 votes to defeat Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 117,845.

Penpushing also reports that the Returning Officer for the election, Prof Olayemi Akinyemi, who is the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, announced the result in Akure, the state capital on Sunday, and shortly after receipt of the certificate on Wednesday Aiyedatiwa expressed appreciation to the people of the state.

The Governor told the residents of the state that the mandate has renewed through their votes across the 18 local government areas where he said he won convincingly adding that the victory has placed a burden on him to serve them better than he did before now

Penpushing reports that it is recalled that Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as Governor of the state last December, following the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who succumbed to a prolonged ailment.
