Stakeholders which include political leaders and residents on Tuesday converged at Ijemo town hall, Abeokuta to celebrate the emergence of Alhaja Lateefah Sowunmi -Kolapo as Deputy Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
Penpushing reports that Chairman, of the party Dr. Abayomi Tella, disclosed that Sowunmi emerged after the party carefully assessed nine qualified aspirants, adding that a thorough search was conducted, and it was resolved that she was the most suitable, capable and outstanding candidate.
The Chairman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to grassroots governance, stressing that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) guiding principle, “Power to the People,” reflects its belief that political authority belongs to the electorate.
Penpushing further reports that Chairman of the Planning Committee, High Chief Mustapha Abdul-Lateef Owolabi, urged residents to complement their prayers with action by registering, collecting their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and voting during the election.
“I appreciate all the prayers for the success of the upcoming election, but the only way these prayers will work is if we put in efforts by getting our voters cards and coming out to vote because that is the only weapon we have to put the right people in government,” he said.
Penpushing also reports that Owolabi added that the emergence of Sowunmi-Kolape had brought renewed hope to Ijemo people, whom he said had long desired greater political representation.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees member, Hon. Fasiu Bakenne, in his remarks said the reception was organised to honour Sowunmi-Kolapo’s emergence, describing her as a true daughter of Ijemo with remarkable leadership qualities.
Penpushing reports that Bakenne, a former member of Ogun State House of Assembly explained that when the party took a deeper look at her profile, found her worthy of the responsibility entrusted to her.
The Senatorial Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo in her remarks called on the people of Ogun Central to remain united and make good use of the opportunity before them.
“We, the people of Ijemo, are warriors and we do not run from battle. This is our time, and we should be grateful that one of us was considered for this position’, Obasanjo emphasized
Penpushing further reports that other notable party chieftains of the party in attendance include Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, who is governorship candidate of the party, Ogun Stat Deputy Chairman of the party, Chief Abiodun Ogunremi; State Secretary, Alhaji Semiu Sodipo
The others are Abeokuta South Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Woman Leader, Dame Titilola, Odedele; Oloye Salami Ajisafe (Oluwo Ijemo); Alhaji Muftau Kehinde (Baale Kuto); High Chief Salmon Ajayi (Balogun Ijemo); Hon. Toyin Amuzu; and Oloye Abdul Rahmon Adeshina (Oluraje Ijemo), among others.
