Doctors strike paralyses activities at University College Hospital Ibadan

The nationwide strike by medical doctors on Monday paralyzed activities at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan,as the hospital was noticed to have being deserted, with little attention extended to few patients on admission who has no options

 Penpushing reports that a check at the outpatient clinic, children clinic, haemotology unit, and cardiac care unit showed the places deserted, while the patients as at the time of filing this report have started leaving to some private hospitals such as Molly Specialist hospital, Gate, Ibadan, Group Medical hospital, Mokola, Ibadan, Alafia hospital, Mokola, Ibadan, and Cottage Hospital among others

The President of the residents Doctors, Dr. Zakariyah Hussain while speaking said that there is going to be a meeting with government officials on Tuesday), to discuss the way forward, assuring  that striking Doctors are ready to return to work if their demands are met.

Penpushing further reports that, the association boss however explained that medical and dental personnel are on ground to attend to emergency situation whenever the needs arises, adding that the strike will continue if the government still failed to meet the doctors demands

The Head of Information Department of University College Hospital(UCH), Toye Akinrinlola while speaking with our reporter said the  management are always proactive despite the ongoing strike.

Penpushing also reports that, he said, all the emergency outlets of the hospital such as the Antenatal unit, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Children Emergency unit and others are still working, adding that consultants are also on ground working which also include, nurses, physiotherapists and the laboratory workers.

The Doctors it is recalled on 1st of April embarked on protest nationwide over failure of the government to capture its members on Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), as well as, payment of two months salary arrears of Resident Doctors and Medical Officers.
